• Coping with CHAOS

Des Day founder of Supply Shack and KMA Sports Academy presents the plethora of toys for a wonderful local charity – Coping with CHAOS Customers of Supply Shack generously donated toys for the charities Christmas Toy Appeal.

Coping with CHAOS is a parent run organisation that supports families caring for a child/children or young person with a disability or special educational need.

We are so privileged to lead a healthy and happy life and to be close to a charity that provides the most magnificent support to children and adults with such profound physical and learning disabilities really pulls on your heart strings and opens your eyes. It’s the least we can all do is give something back to such worthy good causes.  Des Day – Founder Supply Shack Group & KMA Sports Academy

Coping with CHAOS is part of Diverse Abilities Plus  which is an independent, not for profit organisation working together with families to help meet the needs of local people, of all ages with physical and learning difficulties.  They are dedicated to supporting their needs today and the needs that they will have tomorrow whilst enabling them to experience a lifetime of opportunities and challenges.  They endeavour to achieve this through tailor-made programmes of support, developed according to the needs of the individual through every transitional stage of their lives and personal development.

    Christmas Toy Appeal
Help us make this Christmas extra special for one of the local charities we’re supporting.

KMA Sports Academy would like to try and help make this Christmas a little extra special by appealing to our students and friends to collect toys for a fabulous cause; Coping with Chaos. The children that use the services often have a very different need from their toys.  Sound, light and touch all play very important roles in their development and this Christmas we would like to give each child a toy that is suited to them.

    • 100 presents for children who use our Coping with Chaos play sessions in December
    • Maximum spend of £5 per present (to ensure that each child will receive a present of the same value)
    • Presents  are for children aged 2-14
    • Presents should not be gun/army/violence related
    • Presents to be delivered to Diverse Abilities Plus no later than Monday 2nd December

    Coping with CHAOS
    (Children’s Helpers And Other Support)

A parent run organisation that supports families caring for a child/children or young person with a disability or special educational need. We provide services for families living in Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole.

Coping with CHAOS was started in 1997 by two local East Dorset parents, Liz Morris and Anne Boyce, both of whom had children with very different disabilities. Although lots of organisations talked about inclusion and support, they found that in reality very little was available, which left them feeling frustrated and isolated. Based on their personal experiences, they identified the need for an organisation that provided support, not only for the disabled child, but for the siblings as well and ultimately the parents – the whole family. Recognising that the long summer holiday period was a particularly stressful time, they organised the first holiday ‘Play Opportunity’ sessions that year supporting 12 families.  Today over 300 families are registered and Coping with CHAOS is recognised as a major provider of short breaks for families with disabled children in the area.  All the permanent staff are parents of children with disabilities or have experience of working with disabilities. Coping with CHAOS became part of Diverse Abilities Plus on 1st April 2011.

Diverse Abilities Plus (formerly Dorset Scope)  was established by a group of parents of children with cerebral palsy in the 1950s.  It is now a significant charity offering lifetime partnerships to individuals with the whole range of disabilities and their families, empowering them and offering the best level of assistance, support and education across Dorset.  The values and services which Coping with CHAOS and Diverse Abilities Plus provide are complementary.  The support and infrastructure of a larger organisation will help assure the continuation and development of the services we offer at CHAOS.

I hope you can help; best wishes and a BIG thanks in advance from.
